In the rapidly growing Šnipiškės district, at Kernavės g. 82, a new kindergarten is rising on the site of former metal garages. The project was commissioned by Vilnius Development Company to meet the high demand for educational facilities in this expanding part of the city, where young families are settling and new residential blocks are being built.

KRS role

KRS is acting as the general contractor for this project and is responsible for preparing the detailed design. The contract value is €11.625 million. Work began in June 2026, and construction is scheduled to be completed in October 2027.

Project scope

The new kindergarten will accommodate 14 preschool and pre-primary groups, serving approximately 280 children and employing about 60 staff members. The building is divided into distinct volumes to blend harmoniously with the surrounding massive public and residential buildings and the traditional single-family homes of old Šnipiškės.

Environment and design solutions

The kindergarten grounds are designed as a free-form green park nestled between hills, where landscaping serves both protective and educational functions: shielding children from street noise, reducing air pollution, and helping them learn about natural processes. The inner courtyard, featuring landscaped mounds, will transition into play terraces, with most equipment made of wood and some surfaces covered in sand. The building facade will feature natural materials, including painted and natural-colored wooden slats and brick masonry segments.

Benefits to the community

A badminton court is being installed on the northern side of the plot, which will be available for local residents to use after kindergarten hours. Along with the kindergarten, the sections of Kernavės and Linkmenų streets bordering the site are being upgraded, with plans for a roundabout, temporary parking spaces, convenient pedestrian paths, and safe crosswalks.
